Why hello 2012....I've been waiting for you!

I'm officially off maternity leave and what a way to start off the year! I'll cut to the chase and update you on all the new happenings for MK Loeffler Photography in twenty twelve.

First things first: Booking for 2012 portraits are NOW open!! :) Inquiries in my inbox make my day.

Wedding season will be here before you know it! My wedding book has been filling up nicely and I currently only have room for 4 more weddings. If you're still in need of a photographer or know someone who is, please spread the word that I'm only taking 4 more weddings.

Good News! There is a slight change in pricing for prints this year, and for the better! Print prices are either the same as last year or have dropped slightly! Also, a few new products are being offered this year including metal prints and Organic Bloom frames!

I made Jaden's one year canvas last week. (just about a year late ) I LOVE it so much I thought I'd share some photos.

These canvases can be made into any square format size. These are great not only for baby's first year, but also anniversary gifts, a year in review, and couples canvases. What a great way to document your love.

Thanksgiving Day can be a crazy day for a lot of families. Getting together with everyone is great, but overall it's a very busy day! So...why not throw a session in the mix? haha.

On a brisk Turkey day I got the chance to snap some photos for my sis' Christmas family photos. We left Steve and the Grandmas in charge of basting the turkey and watching my boys. If only we saw each other more often we wouldn't have to squeeze them in on the holidays! :(

Here are some of my favorites from the session, without spoiling their Christmas cards. :)

Taylor + Megan : Engaged

I don't know if it was the tone of her voice when I spoke with her over the phone or the extra use of exclamation points in her text messages that convinced me that Megan was extremely excited about being engaged. :)

Megan and Taylor were high school sweethearts and are about to start their lives together. I loved their interaction with each other during their shoot. Their love is authentic, sweet, and innocent. They are simply adorable.

Looking forward to their July wedding!

The past few weeks have been busy and drowsy at the same time. Having two under two is quite the challenge at times, but so completely worth it. Jaden is adjusting well. He is slowly becoming aware of his baby brother and often points and says "Ta" when Tytus is crying. He brings tries to put the paci in his mouth and shares his blankies. I think I'm in for a real treat, full of sweet moment shared between brothers when he gets a little older.

When Tytus was first born I really thought that he looked like Jaden.

As the weeks go by though, I'm convinced that Tytus is looking a little different. I'm certain you'll always be able to tell they are brothers though.

It's hard to believe that he is going to be a month old in just a few days. In the midst of the tired evenings, poopy diapers, constant feedings, building block monsters and coloring with our toddler, I'm trying to savor every second I can of this season of life because I'll never get it back.

Noel's Paperie {featured}

To say I have a lot of talented friends is an understatement. So many of them have been blessed with such amazing gifts and use those gifts to bless others. Stephanie is one of those people. I first met Steph when we were stationed in Jacksonville, North Carolina with the Marine Corps. We shared the same Sunday school class at FBC Jacksonville and like so many marine wives, we were among a group from class that went through deployment together. I knew she was so talented and a D.I.Y. er when I first saw her house, including a fireplace that she re-tiled by herself. Stephanie is one of the sweetest and most humble people I have ever met. She is so gentle and has such a sweet spirit about her.

I was able to capture pictures of their first daughter, Noel and Stephanie's maternity photos as well, being some of the first shoots I did. Since then distance and the marine corps has separated us and we've both become entrepreneurs and have our own businesses. Noel's Paperie is a custom paper company. Everything is handmade and adorable! Check it out on facebook. Noel's Paperie makes custom wedding stationary as well as party invites, business branding pieces, and beyond! Her latest creation is a holiday garland. (see below)

And here's my little munchkin being way more interested in his hat than smiling for me. What a little booger.

From the moment I saw these frames I fell in love with them! These frames come in a variety of sizes and styles to fit every client's needs. I love other products as well, but frames still prove to be the most practical product since photos can be changed out every few years.

Flashback - I Do

Yesterday marked our 4 year anniversary. On October 6 it was an unusually hot day in Illinois. All 20 (yes, 20) members of our wedding party were probably sweating their tails off along with Steve in his blues, and me in my dress.

There are days when it seems like we've been together forever, and there are days when it feels as though it was just yesterday.

We were able to celebrate by going to dinner
Over dinner Stephen asked me if the last 4 years was everything I'd hoped it would be. I asked him the same, and his response?
"They've been incredible."

I didn't know I could love you more than I did the day I married you, but somehow I do. :)

Walk In the Park with DSAGSL

One of my favorite memories from college is from my freshman year. I was a student at Southwest Baptist University playing softball with lots of hardcore Cardinals fans. That year they went to the playoffs, and we drove up to St. Louis to see the game. Did we have tickets? no. Did we stand on top of trashcans outside of the stadium and peek through the fences? yes. Did we drive 4 hours back to school at 11pm? absolutely. A good time was had by all. :) St. Louis is an amazing baseball town, and I love it.

Since we've moved back to the area, I admit I've been slacking on watching games. Being away from it for a few years (and having a Braves fan for a husband....gag!) and just getting busy it sometimes slips my mind that I can now actually watch them play! I am thrilled to know that they are in the playoffs and even more excited that Red October is upon us!!! Last weekend was my first trip to Busch this year, and it was by FAR the most awesome experience I've ever had.

This past year has been filled with lots of great experiences. Last Saturday I had another amazing opportunity to partner with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis for their "Walk In the Park" event at Busch stadium. 3,800 individuals, family members, and friends of those affected by down syndrome rallied together at the stadium to walk the field and celebrate the lives of those with down syndrome.

Special thanks to my friend Ashley Henna for the opportunity! Ash, you did a fabulous job on the event! It came together wonderfully!

While walking the field, everyone had the opportunity to drop personal letters of thanks and appreciation to Albert and his family in special boxes at home plate. DSAGSL definitely loves the Pujols family!

Many of you may not know, but the Pujols family is very involved with DSAGSL. At the game, DSAGSL presented him with an award of appreciation for all the Pujols family does for the community.

I admit I was a little starstruck as I stood just inches away from Albert Pujols. Good thing I had a camera in my hand and working or I would have probably been looking for a sharpie for him to sign my shirt :)

Albert's kids are adorable! "Daddy! Daddy!" they shouted as he came out on the field, pointing at him. :)

I loved watching the kids take the field! I know it's an experience they will never forget.

And this is about the time that I was getting yelled at to get into the holding room because I was on the field too long, which is probably why some of you saw me walking off the field on the news that evening. Hey, when opportunity knocks...

I highly doubt that I'll ever be able to have an experience like this again and I am so grateful for such an amazing opportunity!!! Now lets go REDBIRDS!!!

Reunion

Last night I spent some time with an old friend. We hadn't seen each other in years, and at our class reunion she showed up. We laughed together, we cried together, and we talked about the time that we'd missed out on over the past 10 years. She was the same as I always remembered, just grown up.

Part of me wishes I wouldn't have woken up. My dream was truly a blessing. I haven't had a dream that real feeling in a long long time. The problem is that when I woke up, I remembered the reality that it was only a dream.

Something happens when you lose someone close to you in your life. You never forget them, but as time goes on, the reality of them actually being gone is ever present, but slowly fades into the back of your mind and over the months and years, it gets easier to get out of bed, do the things you used to do together, and accept that you can't change anything that is already done.

Then there are days when you have a relapse, and they're all you can think about : your last conversation (boyfriends), last goodbye (class), regrets (too many to name).
You never forget where you were, what you were doing, and what you did after you find out the news when you're faced with a personal tragedy. At the time that my friend Mandy was killed in a car accident at 16 years old, I had just experienced the death of my dad 3 months earlier. I think that's part of the reason that I don't remember a lot about the week Mandy died. I've had friends remind me of events and gatherings we had before, during, and after the funeral and I remember very little.

Today, I don't know how any of us got through it. At the time I claimed that God was getting me through it, but honestly, I wasn't sure how much I believed it. Looking back now, I don't have any other explanation than it was my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who carried me through that year.

I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and give them joy for their sorrow.

I can't help but be joyful for the short 10 years we knew each other. And more than that, I am overjoyed about the decision she made just weeks before she left this earth to make Jesus Christ the Lord of her life. This is where my true joy is, in the promise that she is with Him.

This is my favorite Mandy-Moo; the Mandy that played Nintendo 64 till midnight with me and danced around singing to Usher and Jewel albums.

Thank you Lord for my friend Mandy. Thank you for the friendship we shared and the joy she brought to my life.

Jaden: 18 months Young

I am less than 3 weeks away from our due date. I'm officially on maternity leave...aka not shooting sessions, and I admit I got the bug to go out and shoot last week. I just couldn't help it! It's been a while since I've done a session with Jaden and it's fitting since he turned 18 months last week. Yes, 18 months. Can you believe it?

I sure can't.

Before the hustle and bustle of having a newborn gets here, I wanted to take a moment to note the accomplishments and development of our eldest pride and joy.

-At 18 months-
- can run, jump, climb, throw, and play the drums
- can point out specific animals, clouds, and foliage in books
- says mama, dada, uh oh, and nana clearly
- uses sign language for "please", "milk", and "all-done"
- has his own vocabulary for certain items/phrases - "Guh Guh" (kitty cat), "Guk" (kick), "ite der" (right there)
- jabbers constantly, mainly full of duh's and da's
- loves wrestling with daddy, pillow fighting with daddy, and peek-a-boo with mommy
- is great at picking up toys, stacking blocks, and putting shoes away
- learning more body parts - knows eyes, ears, head, hair, nose, hands, belly button, arm, fingers, toes, teeth
- is currently infatuated with bees and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
- makes roaring noises for bears
- loves playing outside with sticks, rocks, and dirt (typical boy)
- likes holding mommy and daddy's hand

Jaden, my sweet boy. We love you more than you will ever know.

Katie + Andrew : I Do { Clarksville, MO Wedding Photographer }

From the initial consultation I had with Katie and Andrew, I knew that I would fall in love with their wedding. What I didn't know was that I would want to build a time machine, take Katie with me, and have her plan my own wedding! :)

During their engagement session I learned that Katie and Andrew met when she started a job at Must Have Outdoors a few years ago. They are such an adorable and sweet couple. What a great wedding to end the summer with! Katie and Andrew's wedding was a perfect example of country-chic. Gorgeous!

Erica + Ali : I Do { St. Louis Wedding Photographer }

Another great wedding with Ashley Miller Photography! I loved the opportunity to second shoot for Ashley, especially when I heard about the ceremony and reception! The ceremony and reception was a blend of both American and Ethiopian traditions. It was my first time eating Ethiopian food and seeing Ethiopian dances. Both were amazing!

The Cornelius Family { St. Louis Family Photographer }

Since we've moved back to the midwest I've had the pleasure of photographing some of my friends from high school. I have to say, I love it. :)

About a month ago I donated a mini session for a benefit for Teresa's mom; Toni, and Teresa won the silent auction!

Adam and Teresa both went to high school with me. As kids, Teresa and I used to go to Culbertson's Skating rink together and had sleepovers. Adam moved to town in high school and quickly became part of the crew. It's crazy to think that we are married with kids, when high school seems not so far away.

I met with Adam and Teresa in St. Louis for a quick family session. We had gorgeous weather! I'm loving this fall front. Audrey is a joy to be around, so sweet, calm, and gentle. Even her sequels and screams are dainty. She's a whole year older than Jaden, and weighs the same or less than he does. Yes, we have a linebacker.

Thanks guys for a great session. It was GREAT to see you again. You are blessed with a precious baby girl. :)

Erin + Mik { I Do } : Waco, Texas

Last month I shot my first destination wedding...in Waco, Texas. :) We had a great time while we were there, (more about that later) and since our return, life has been nothing short of crazy and busy as always. It's almost 1 am and I'm still up finishing up this blog post. This is my life.

I met Erin in Sunday school at FBC Vandalia when I was about 5. We instantly clicked and have been friends ever since. After graduation, Erin's job as a speech pathologist took her to San Antonio, Texas. Little did she know she would meet the man of her dreams; lead vocalist and guitarist for Ghandi's Gun. It wasn't long after they met that both Mik and Erin knew they wanted to be together, forever.

Their Texan, country-rock wedding was by far the most unique wedding I've ever photographed/been in/attended! The ceremony took place on Mik's mother's ranch near Waco, Texas and provided a beautiful backdrop for photographs and for the ceremony.

This is by far the biggest blog post I've ever done. Forgive me for all the photos. I narrowed down as much as I could. She is one of my besties though after all. I guess she deserves a little more than the norm. ;) I know she's DYING to see these.

Plus, since everything is bigger in Texas, I may as well make this the biggest blog post ever...:)

One of my favorite series from the day. Marla is Erin's best friend and mom. Marla emailed me to let me know that she was crying as she typed the letter to me, just thinking about the wedding day. I think Marla succeeded in NOT crying at this time surprisingly. ;)

Yes I was in the wedding, and no I didn't take this photo. Stephen did such a great job as my second shooter! Thank you SO much sweetie!

During the ceremony, Mik and Erin's parents were asked by the pastor if they gave their blessing for the marriage. Steve leaned to Marla, flipped a coin, and luckily it turned up on the right side....;)

Erin and Mik, I am SO happy for the both of you. I pray that God will bless you on your new adventure in life together. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your day. LOVE you so much!!

Baby Lincoln On The Way

I called Bonnie to tell her that we would be having another baby in October. To my surprise I found out that she too was going to be a mommy a week later! It's been so fun to be pregnant both times with friends who are close to me. We share info about doctor appointments, pregnancy woes, and "enjoy" putting on weight together. ;)

Bonnie and I have been friends since we were in kindergarten. It's only fitting that our boys know each other from the start. Although we are far away from each other, I have a feeling that Tytus and Lincoln will be buddies.

Just a few more weeks and we'll get to meet little Lincoln!

Bon Bon, you are truly gorgeous. Mommyhood is already looking good on you.

Lincoln, you are already loved by so many people. We can't wait to meet you in a few weeks!

The Sussenbachs : Roots

I've known Tracie probably since I was in kindergarten. Her sister Becky and I grew up together and I couldn't tell you the amount of hours I spent in their basement at sleepovers or in their pastures riding horses with her. Fast forward years later and Tracie is now married with 2 beautiful children.

Meet Rowdy (LOVE the name btw). Although I'm sure that he can be quite "rowdy" at times, he was nothing less than complaint and sweet on the day of our session. :)

Then there's Regan who is adorable. Don't you want to squeeze her cheecks?

I met Harley earlier this year when I photographed her senior rep session. I've only known her for a few months, but from what I can tell, Harley loves to have fun! I know that Harley lives and breathes softball (sound familiar?) and when she's not playing ball, she's spending her senior year with her amazing friends.

Megan: MGHS Class of 2012

We're back from vacation, and what a trip we had! More to come on that later. Just before sneaking off to Texas I was able to squeeze in a few sessions in Illinois. One of them was the ravenous redhead- Megan; gorgeous, sweet, and laid back.

I love senior sessions. I've had some fun adventures with the last few seniors I've shot- including a close encounter with a train, a snake handler, and borrowing property from a family member! I love when I have clients who are up for anything, and even when I have crazy ideas or out of the box ideas, they're up for it!

Baby Tytus on the way @ 30 weeks

It's been a while since I've posted a personal post, so if you don't know this is baby #2. Oh faithful blog readers, we are about to have 2 under 2! :) Fun times. Baby Tytus (Ty) is expected in mid October. In case you're wondering about the name, Tytus is one that really we both just liked. It means: to honor. Kent was my dad's middle name.
When we were pregnant with Jaden we didn't get matnerity pictures done because of multiple reasons. Finding time was one thing. We had just moved to Missouri, Stephen had just started a new job, and we were in the middle of a cold winter as well. This time, conditions are much more pleasing. :)

You'd think that being a photographer you'd be ok with having your picture taken. I am but wow is it weird! It's just completely different being on the opposite side of the lens. I photographed my friend Ashley and her family a few weeks ago and she so graciously agreed to do our maternity pictures in return.

I feel kind of like superheros teaming up for these kinds of sessions. Her vision + my editing = a good team.

We are thrilled with how the photos turned out. Thanks again Ashley! :)

I can't believe we only have 10 weeks to go. Looking forward to meeting little Tytus.

Alison: Class of 2012

Meet Alison, the spunky, always smiling, Fazoli's breadsticks lover. :) This week we traveled down to the Lou (Not sure I'm cool enough to say that but I just did...) for her urban senior session. Riding in the car with Alison, her sister and mom, I witnessed such an awesome family dynamic. Not only are these girls family, they are best of friends.

In conversation my blog came up. I have to admit I was pretty excited to know that I have my very own blog stalkers! haha. Love you guys.

One of the things I love best about Alison is that she doesn't know how truly beautiful she is. She's so sweet and quite an athlete, (Trust me, she'd kick your butt in volleyball) but HELLO, have you seen her in these photos? Model material! :)

Girls I had such a blast on our session together!!

Like I mentioned earlier, I rarely ever see Alison NOT smiling. Getting her to be "serious" in a few of the photos was a challenge. By the end of the evening though she was a pro!

This is the first time I've ever offered "Senior-Sib" packages. It was a lot of fun to do and I hope to get the opportunity to shoot another one soon! You can read more about it on the website.

Baker Family : Roots

It has been flat out stinkin' hot this summer! I'm thankful for clients who brave the heat. We traveled to a family friend's property for a family session with the Bakers last week.

I love it when I have return clients. :) I had the privilege of photographing Paige and Jared last year with their little boy Braxton and was excited when she contacted me again for this year's photos. Since the last time we met, these two lovebirds have tied the knot! Congrats to the newlyweds! :)

It took a while for Braxton to warm up to me, but eventually I got some smiles out of him. Fart noises and candy always seem to work.

Alyssa: Class of 2012

Has anyone else been sweating uncontrollably in the heat wave we've been having? In the middle of the heatwave we had, the gorgeous Alyssa and I ventured out into Pike County for her senior session.

I'm constantly torn between the love of country settings and urban settings. Alyssa's session definitely brings me closer to the country side.

Alyssa is part of our youth group at 2BCBG and active in so many different organizations that I probably couldn't name them all. :) She has a beautiful smile, but I love her fierce look too. Not too many people can pull that off! Alyssa is a very driven senior. She puts 110% into everything that she does, whether it's cheerleading or creating a list on the dry erase board for a Sunday school lesson! :)

She and her family have been such a great source of encouragement and support for us. We are blessed to have all of you in our lives. (Sasha too. ;) )

I've been so fortunate to befriend so many awesome people in the industry. It's so great to know you've got support from others and that you're not the only one going through the same challenges of the business. I met Ashley last year at our monthly meetings we attended. Her personality and excitement is contagious and you just want to be around her.

I had the pleasure of photographing her and her beautiful family a few weeks ago. It was one of the hottest days we've had and poor things, they braved the heat to meet me for an evening session. (I think there was ice cream promised for afterward. :) )

Ashley, you are gorgeous! Can't wait for our maternity session next week!

You would have never guessed it was 100 bazillion degrees outside from these adorable kiddo's faces.

This is the second photo I've taken in the past month that "Toms" have been the highlight...
Just may have to order me a pair. I'm thinking coral wedges?? And if you must know, I was laying on the railroad tracks, pregnant and sweaty. The things I do for a photo op. :)

I always try to take a few photos of what started the family. It is "all because 2 people fell in love". Cheesy? I know, but so true! :)
After you have kids it's very rare that you take photos of just the two of you.
I wanted to post just a couple of Ashley and Hernan. Today is their anniversary and they are more in love than ever. :)

Kenley : Bridal

Mosley Family : Roots

Wow has it been hot lately! The midwest has been showing temperatures over 100 and my pregnant body has been taking notice!

I met with the Mosley family in my hometown: Mulberry Grove, Illinois, last week. I knew that I would have a lot of subjects to photograph, but I didn't know I'd have my own personal attention grabber at my disposal! Special thanks to Josh for helping out with Drake, and probably everyone else too. :)

I went to school/church with a lot of the Lawler/Mosley crew. They are such a sweet and lovely family to be around. I hope you guys enjoy your photographs, and didn't get too many mosquito bites! :(

Last month I once again had the opportunity to second shoot with my good buddy Emily Dobson. We headed out to a small country church for a fun filled and relaxed day with Sarah and Drew.

I always love second shooting. It's seriously one of the best gigs ever. It also gives you the chance to just shoot rather than shoot, manage, direct, & organize; all of which you do as a lead photographer.

Sarah and Drew had a slight vintage feel and a little pinch of country charm. Enjoy the photos.

The Summers have been friends of ours for a while now, and we've loved getting to know them over the past year. Wendy and Darren have a huge heart for foster care and adoption. Their kids are awesome and so much fun to be around.

We ventured out to some family property for their family session, braving the heat, bugs, and cow patties. :) Thank you Summers family for a fun Saturday evening!

Kenley + Joseph: I Do

Traveling back to my old stomping grounds, I had the fabulous opportunity to photograph these love bird's nuptials. It was the first wedding I've photographed where I've known 90% of the guests that were there. It was fun to see so many people I know and grew up with. Most of all it was so fun having the privilege of capturing Kenley and Joe's special day. Special thanks to Ashley Miller Photography for tagging along and grabbing some great shots for me!

I loved what the pastor shared with the guests at Kenley and Joe's wedding. During pre-marriage counseling he asked what their favorite thing about each other was. Just to name a few:
"She's obviously gorgeous!" and "I love that he's always smiling." :)

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day! I hope you fall in love with your wedding photos. :)

They say it's good luck when it rains on your wedding day. On Kenley and Joseph's day, it rained. We were a little concerned whether the weather would let up long enough for us to photograph them outside. To our advantage, the overcast skies provided awesome lighting for our portraits.

We headed to Copper Dock Winery after the ceremony, just outside of Pocahontas, Illinois. Love both of these images, especially Kenley's sassy look on the right! :)

Jaden's First Love Letter

It's been a while since I posted something personal on the business blog. June has been crazy busy for me. The Lord has truly been blessing me in my business and I'm ever grateful for it. As I speak I'm waiting for images to export out of LightRoom.

That being said, I have been so caught up with work that I have hardly even taken any photos of Jaden during the month of June. I sadly admit that these were 1 of 2 sets of photos taken this past month...and they were in the same day.

Jaden has learned to walk and is practically running around now. Where has the time gone? It felt like it took him forever (14 months) to walk and now we can hardly keep up. Words are few and far between for him, but he has "ma ma" and "da da" down. He also says "ki ki" for kitty (in a high pitched voice), and "su so" (Sasha). At least he knows who lives with him. :) Speaking however is one of his favorite things. Let me rephrase...yelling, squealing, and belly laughing are some of his favorite daily activities.

I'm so curious as to how he will take to his brother. For now he seems a little uninterested in anything to do with "baby". He just wants to touch my belly button with his index finer so I will pretend laugh. He also is still learning that he can't climb on mommy's belly and bounce like he does to daddy. I am 25 weeks today and our second little boy hasn't been shy about letting us know he's here, in both appearance and movement. We think we may have settled on a name.

I've been introducing Jaden to sidewalk chalk. He's learning. Basically it's an excuse for me to go out and draw pictures and write things on our back porch. Like a true boy, J finds some way to destroy it, cross it out, or scribble on my stick figures. It's all good though. Abstract art right?

Carli: Class of 2012

Remember Carli from a few months back? This bubbly personality lit up the camera as we ventured out to Vandalia and her family farm for her senior session.

Here are some things to know about Miss Carli. She is a girl of many faces(as you will see). She's got lots of personality. Carli hates cats. She can be a little goofy, and best of all she loves the Lord.

I met Carli last year after super summer week at HLGU. She's honest, she's adorable, and she loves life.

I had a first on this session. I was injured on the job. While attempting to use a certain location, silly me stepped on a broken bottle and sliced the arch of my foot. When I say sliced, I really mean sliced! It was stitches worthy, but we decided against it. I was a little nervous considering I had a wedding to shoot the following day, but thanks to Dr. Stephen I was able to hobble around on it for a 9+ hour wedding the following day.

I catch a lot of grief about my "old man" boat shoes, but I tell ya what. Flip flops will not longer accompany me on sessions unless they are indoor.

Thanks Carli for not freaking out, driving me home, and being ok with calling it a wrap! :) I still LOVED your images!

Paige + Jeff: I Do {Brownstown, IL wedding}

It's always fun going back to do weddings near where I grew up. Although I hated the circumstance, I was asked about subbing in for a friend of mine to photograph her June wedding. Paige and Jeff were super laid back and I loved getting to know them on their special day. Seriously, how many brides do you know that would happily ride around in a topless Jeep as they headed to the reception, veil flapping in the wind? :)

Step Up For Down Syndrome Walk

Last month I had the opportunity to photograph for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis. Every year a walk is hosted by the association to build support, bring awareness, and provide community and fellowship with others. This was my first year in attendance and I am so honored to be a part of such a wonderful day.

I loved getting to meet many different families at the walk. Ages ranged from expecting to adult. This team had my favorite shirts for the day, with Psalm 139 on them: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (vs. 14)

The morning started off with fun activities from bounce houses, to craft tables, food, to raffle drawings. It was time to start the walk. Before everyone lined up for their trek, warm up stretches were a necessity. :)

Boy was it hot out that day! Despite the heat, the turnout was a huge success. Thankfully there were free popsicles for everyone. (myself included...)

Lee: Class of 2012

Lee is a senior at BGHS and has big plans for after high school, including going into the medical field. She is a part of our youth group at Second Baptist Bowling Green and claims to be one of Jaden's girlfriends. :)

Lee cheers for both football and basketball but she's not your average cheerleader. She also has a secondary black belt in karate. Hi-Ya!

It's been so fun getting to know Lee over the past year. We look forward to seeing you still even after you're graduated missy!

Bobby + Lacey: Engaged

Bobby is one of my oldest and dearest friends. You can read all about it here. Bobby is like an M&M. He's got this really tough exterior but on the inside, he's made of good, sweet stuff. :) Lacey brings out that sweet part of him. I for one, never thought Bobby would get married. If I had a penny for every time I heard him say he wasn't going to get married, I'd be rich. However, all that changed after he met the girl of his dreams; Lacey. And I can understand why! She's sweet, considerate, not to mention beautiful!

Lacey and Bobby went to high school together. Lacey says she remembers seeing him play baseball when they were in elementary school and deciding that she liked him. They've been dating for a while now, and will be tying the knot in June of 2012. I'm so excited, not just to be photographing it, but to also be a part of your special day!

Like most kids who grew up within 100 miles from the city, Bobby has been a Cardinals fan his whole life. Lacey on the other hand, grew up watching the Cubbies on tv with her dad. Can it be? A cubs and cardinals fan see past their differences and fall in love?? :)

It was SO fun to walk around St. Louis with these two for our session. Lacey, you have truly stolen Bobby's heart.

Call me crazy, but I've always wanted to do an engagement session in a laundromat. Who better to test it out than 2 friends? :) Thanks guys for having a little fun with me and being my guinea pigs.

Cassidy: Senior Class of 2012

Remember Cassidy from the spring? Being a senior rep has its perks. You get 2 senior sessions, AND you get free stuff every time you refer a friend that books! Remember that for next year!

Cass was one of the first students we got to know when we moved to Bowling Green. Energetic, optimistic, and grounded is how I would describe Cassidy. Besides being one of Jaden's "girlfriends", Cass is involved in a lot of activities both at school and at church. She is on the school softball team. I've seen her throw (church dodgeball :) ) and I must say, she's got quite the arm! We ventured out to a few places around the county on a hot and humid day! (air conditioner blasted in the car in between!) Thanks Cass for being a trooper and handling the heat so well!

Here are my favorites from Cassidy's session.

I mentioned in her spring session that it's very rare that I don't see Cass smiling. However I did want at least one photo of her not smiling. I think we managed one photo out of all of them because she just can't help but smile! :)

Hayden: 12 Months

It seems like lots of big events happen in clusters. The year I got married I was in 3 other weddings. When I was pregnant with Jaden I had multiple friends that were pregnant as well. Julie was one of those preggos with me. The outcome of the 9 months was Hayden Claire. We joke all the time that they were going to have an arranged marriage between Jaden and Hayden. Seriously, Jaden and Hayden? How cute is that? Hayden Claire Loeffler...I can see her doodling it in the margins of her homework now...ok I'll stop. I don't know that they care too much about each other yet. We've had multiple play dates, but they usually just do their own thing. Hayden is so sweet and gentle, and Jaden is like Godzilla. That's the difference between boys and girls I guess. :)

We headed out to Hayden's great grandma's house for our session, on one of the hottest days this year! She was quite a little trooper though and dealt with the heat amazingly. Of course we took lots of breaks in the air conditioning.

Hayden turns one next week, and I can hardly believe it! She's starting to cruise along too- taking multiple steps at a time! Way to go Hayden!

Allyse: 12 Months

It is the season of tutus. The last three 12 month sessions I've had, my clients have dressed their little girls in tutus. I guess since we're having another boy I'll settle for photographing adorable little girls in their girlie fluffy tutus. :)

Meet baby Allyse. It was my first time meeting her and she was sweet as sugar. Her mom and my sister were friends during college and therefore I tagged along sometimes when they were together. I remember going t.p.ing with my friends and Crystal's friends, Denyse, and Jaime, and hiding out in the back of a truck with toilet paper in hand, hoping the cops wouldn't stop us. Now, I'm photographing her adorable little one. :)

We headed out to their house (which is gorgeous) and were able to use the beautiful countryside of Bond County.

Thanks Denyse for being SO flexible with scheduling and so laid back about everything! Allyse was a great little model.

Maternity Leave : Personal

I was scrolling through my recent blog posts and realized that on my business blog I haven't announced that we're expecting! Come October we will have 2 under 2! We are expecting another boy (yet to be named) and are excited the little blessing that God has given to us.

That being said, I will be taking maternity leave in the late summer/early fall. My last day of work "in the field" (sessions and weddings) will be September 12th and I'll be returning to work in January. Aside from that I will be working up to D-Day (Oct 15) at home, editing, taking/processing orders, and the like. If you are hoping to get a session in for your holiday cards this fall, please schedule for early September this year!

Erin + Mik: Engaged

I'm not even sure where to start with this blog post. There is so much to say. Erin is one of my oldest friends. In fact, she was really my first friend. Erin was the first person I met in our kindergarten Sunday school class, and we've been friends ever since. We spent the years growing up together, spending Sundays at each others houses, staying up late talking about boys, making up dance routines in her basement at 3 a.m., and even watching Lifetime and catching up on Lost while we lived together in college. Needless to say, we've been through a lot together.

I was thrilled when she asked me to photograph her wedding in Texas this summer, and even more excited that I'd be able to photograph her engagement session (and meet Mik) while they were visiting St. Louis this past weekend.

It may not be the way everyone does it; planning a wedding and taking engagement photos BEFORE you're actually engaged, but if you know Erin, you know that everything she does is as unique as she is. ;)

While Erin changed clothes, I was excited to get to know Mik. I could tell he was a little uneasy, and I quickly learned why. He had planned to propose to her that day and we had to work out cues to make it happen, so I could get it on camera. It was so much fun and I was so happy to be able to document their special moment. Make sure to click Here to see images from the actual proposal too. :)

The Steiners

All week "they" were calling for rain. To our surprise it was a gorgeous Saturday evening for our family shoot. On a crazy-busy weekend, the Steiner family managed to squeeze in a family session at Moscow Mills. From the moment the kids got out of the car I knew it was going to be a fun evening. Ethan ran to the nearest dirt pile, and Emma had already pulled her bow from her hair in the car. :) Kids are the best! (: I tried to make the shoot as quick and painless as possible, and even bribed with prizes. I think it worked! :) Here is the finished product of this sweet small town family.

Bubbles!

It seems like after you have children, you rarely take any photos of just you and your husband anymore. It is important though. Afterall, it's the two of you who started it all. I hope Tammy and Chuck enjoy the images of the two of them as much as all the other ones from our session.

Katie + Andrew : Engaged

As I drove through the winding roads of rural, eastern Missouri, I found myself lost. I did what any woman would do; I stopped and asked for directions! ;) When I asked a local business owner where I could find the residence of Andrew Howard, she smiled and responded, "Oh you mean the tv star?"

When I first received Katie's inquiry I thought she sounded familiar. Then once I re-read the email she sent, I realized that she and her groom to be are the hosts of Must Have Outdoors, a television series about outdoor products and hunting gear. I admit I was a little nervous before meeting with them initially, I mean these guys are on tv regularly, have been on magazine covers, and are regular home town celebrities! But, my nerves were put at ease within the first 5 minutes of meeting with them. Katie and Andrew are one of the sweetest, and most laid back couples I've ever met. Not to mention, adorable!

I love engagement shoots. Seriously, they are the best. I love being able to capture young love, and seeing the interaction between a couple in their normal everyday setting. Wedding days are great of course, but with the engagement session, everything is so much more laid back and relaxing. We headed out to the Howard's property for an evening session that didn't disappoint. The property is gorgeous, and I'm thrilled that we will be visiting it again for their September nuptials!

A couple of things I learned during the shoot: Katie is gorgeous, and Andrew is absolutely crazy about her.

And in case you're wondering, the answer is Yes, they are just as sweet and adorable in real life as they are in pictures. :) Katie and Andrew, I can't wait for your classy-vintage wedding in September!

The Johnsons

"Just so you know, my boys think this is crazy," Mrs. Johnson said with a chuckle as she and Bill walked up to their pregnant photographer, lounging on a white futon, in the middle of an ally. If you are a photographer, and if you like to take risks with your images, people may think you're a little crazy. :) I had someone ask if we were moving in while we unloaded the futon, and others stopped talking and stared as they passed the ally. It's not the first time, and it won't be the last!

It wasn't until I sat down to edit the Johnson family photos that I realized something pretty amazing. As I looked through the photos I realized how much of an impact so many of them have had on my life.Alisha and I grew up together and I spent many nights in the Johnson home shooting pool, making prank phone calls, and going t.p.ing in the family van.Maria served as our school secretary/nurse/mom at school. If something was wrong, you went to Mrs. Johnson and she would always fix it.Bill served as my little league and older summer softball coach alongside of my dad. I couldn't tell you the amount of hours I spent on a ball field with him. Then, as I entered into high school,Angie became our cheerleading coach, putting up with countless shenanagins pulled by my teammates, and lots of stressful stunts and competition preparation!

Kind of crazy how a small town family from rural Illinois could have such an impact on a single life huh? :) I'm so grateful that they have been a part of my life, and I was thrilled to help capture their family portraits.

THis is perhaps the largest (and tallest ;) ) family portrait I've ever taken! You guys were amazing! Seriously! 16 people in 1 photo could have been a nightmare but you guys made it SO easy!! I always say this, but I swear, I've been blessed with the best clients.

Abby + Kurt: I Do

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to second shoot for Ashley Miller Photography. If you are a photographer and you've never second shot before, it is an awesome gig! There's no deadlines for getting images edited and all you have to do is what you love. Shooting! I had so much fun with Ashley while we strutted around Soulard in the gorgeous weather we were having. The wedding date was set just after all of the crazy tornadoes, and I really think that God blessed them with a beautiful day for their nuptials!

Their ceremony was held at Soulard Preservation Hall which was filled with lots of unique character.

Might I note that their family and wedding party were extremely nice. As Ashley could tell you, I admit eating a burger that one of the sweet groomsmen offered to get for me when they discovered I was expecting, and hadn't eaten much at all that day. Note to self: bring snacks next time! :)

Happy Easter to everyone! What a great day to celebrate our risen savior! Today I sang a song with a friend in church and it's such a perfect song for Easter. I heard on the radio that the lyrics to this song were written in the early 1900's. How cool that the lyrics still hold true today? That's the amazing and awesome truth and relevance of the word of gospel. It's actually an old hymn as well, titled "One Day". Casting Crowns has taken it and given it a total new twist, and I love them for it. :)

As you finish out your Easter, take a min if you haven't already and reflect on the gospel delivered through these lyrics.

Harley: Senior Rep 2012 @ MGHS!

Mulberry Grove is a long way from Bowling Green, but I decided to extend the senior rep program there this year because since I have family and friends in the area, I don't mind traveling back there. Work and play, all in the same weekend. :) In fact, for senior sessions only, I'm discounting the travel fee* to a flat 45.00 for MGHS seniors. Or, if you are willing to meet in St. Louis, 25.00.

I seriously have had the most beautiful senior reps this year. Meet Harley, Senior: 2012 at MGHS. I'm looking forward to her summer session very much. I have a feeling she has a fun and funky sense of style. She was a lot of fun to work with. More to come with Harley!

Baby Payton: 12 Months

It's hard to believe that Payton is 12 months old today!! Wow. I was looking at some newborn photos of Payton and it doesn't seem very long ago! It's been such a fun journey to photograph her as she's grown this past year!

Something I've learned about Payton is that she loves to smile. She is one of the easiest babies to get to smile that I've ever photographed! (thanks to mom and dad!!) Payton is w̶a̶l̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ running! It was hard to keep up with her now that she's learned to use her feet.

Thank you Ashley, Jerell, and Payton for a wonderful year! You have been wonderful clients to have, and it's been so fun to re-connect with you guys. Looking forward to seeing Miss Payton grow into a beautiful little girl.

Meet Cassidy, Class of 2012 @ BGHS! There's so much to tell about this amazing girl, but I want to make sure I don't spoil it all for her full senior session at a later date. But for now, I'll mention just a few facts about Cass.
She claims Jaden as her boyfriend (as does Lee).
She throws harder than most boys her age.

We had to try lots of times to get a more "serious" one, but I think the ones we got turned out pretty good. :) I love this one. You look pretty "bad" in this one. And I mean that in a good "bad" way, even though I'm probably not cool enough to use bad in that fashion...

Lee: Senior Rep 2012 @ BGHS

What a week! I've had so much fun editing and photographing beautiful girls. This is round 2 of 3 senior rep sessions for me this month. Woo Hoo! Loving these. When it comes to portraits, each type of session has good things about them. With seniors it gives the opportunity to have fun and different! Senior sessions are bold and a little edgy.
The thing I love about seniors is that most of the time the last professional portraits parents have taken of their children are around age 7-8. Fast forward 10 years and what a difference! You no longer see the little girl or boy in those photos but the beautiful (or handsome) adult they have blossomed into.

As bad as it sounds, I admit that my goal is to make mom cry when they see the images for the first time. :) Is that a bad goal to have? haha.

Tiffany + Jason: Anytime Session

Tiffany and Jason met on the campus of SIUE her freshman year of college. Tiffany worked in the dining services office, and Jason came to fill out an application. Adorable right? I thought it would be fitting to travel back to the place that started it all for our shoot. When I asked what made them unique as a couple, the old "opposites attract" answer came out. :) There differences are what they love most about each other. Jason was a track star at SIUE and still loves to be in the outdoors, running multiple marathons and even a triathlon, while Tiff loves curling up on the couch with a good book or spending the day at Barnes and Noble with Starbucks in hand. :)

Tiff and I actually went to high school together. She was in Stephen's class, but we never got to know each other until after high school. Come to find out we freakishly have a lot in common! Similar taste in clothing, food, and music too. Weird!

They never had engagement pictures done, so I wanted to make sure that these photos were extra special since this was the only time aside from their wedding photos that they'd had photos taken together professionally. Tiffany and Jason, I hope I captured the day for you how you'd envisioned. You guys are adorable.

There were so many images that I liked. It was SO hard to pick for the blog. (and I hear that it's difficult for others too ;) ) Here are my favorites from our session.

B&A: Alyssa

Just to add some spice to the blog, I thought it would be interesting to start a Before & After series on the blog. As far as editing goes, a lot of photographers hate this part of the process. They are primarily shooters. I like to think I'm still primarily a shooter, but I don't think I would ever consider outsourcing for my editing. Maybe I'm too picky, or maybe it's just that I love feeling like I've accomplished something when I take an image from a 4 to a 10 on the wow meter. The hardest thing to me is to decide on which direction I want to go. I have a weakness for vintage processed photos but I also love bold and bright saturation. They're a little contradictory to each other, and I've tried to decide which route to go, and I just can't decide. Maybe over the next few years I'll determine which fits my "style" best. :)

Now, I'm no expert on Photoshop OR LightRoom, but I have learned a lot over the past 3-4 years, and am STILL learning.

Baby Logan: 8 Days Old

I met Nikki at the first lady's Bible study I attended at SIUE. From the moment I met Nikki I was instantly drawn to her. I loved her passion, her drive, her confidence, and most of all her love for Christ. Throughout the years I have remained in contact with Nikki, and have been lucky enough to be mentored by her. Nikki and Kevin have an amazing testimony of what God has done in their life. I was thrilled at the opportunity to photograph their newest edition to their family. Meet baby Logan.

Having Jaden so big now, I've forgotten how fragile and precious newborns are. Look at the grip Logan has on daddy's finger in this photo. I absolutely love it! Kevin is truly the baby whisperer. He has Dunsten's Happiest Baby On the Block down!!

Recognize this onsie? Yes, Jaden has one just like it. I can't help but love these things. They're a popular gift I give for baby boys.

Nikki and Kevin are HUGE UFC fans, so it was only fitting that they received this hat as a gift from a friend of theirs.

Meet our littlest aviator. I have this fear. Maybe if you're a photographer you can empathize. Even though I feel like I find great locations and have unique ideas for clients, I fear that when it comes to my own kid's photos, or where family is involved, I'll go blank and not have a creative spark in me. Then something amazing happens. Random things happen- like a pilot leaves his vintage looking yellow airplane parked conveniently outside of the hanger at the airport. :) Good thing. ;)

So to the owner of this plane- I promise we did not touch it! We only used it for the background. Thank you for leaving it outside! You're the best. :)

30 For 30 : 1-3

Last week I came across a blog that introdeced the idea of "30 for 30". The basic idea of it is to get the most out of your wardrobe. Hang in there guys, I know you're already bored. It's called "remixing" and here's what you do. Pick 30 items from your closet, shirts, shoes, and bottoms. Accessories do not count. Your goal is to create 30 different stylish outfits out of your 30 pieces of clothing. You can take a month, 6 months, a year... it's really up to you. I'm currently on outfit number 3.

The girl who started the blog has much better photos than I do on the blog because I haven't taken the time to really take good photos and it's weird taking photos of myself. Poor Steve is probably tired of me asking him to take a picture of me already.

Anyhow, I love this idea and it's been so fun to do. A couple things I've realized is that I don't branch out and take risks with my outfits as much as I wish I would. A friend of mine is doing this too and she's even drawing each item out of a bowl for each time she chooses an outfit which makes it super fun.

Another thing I've learned is that I have a few stores that I REALLY like to shop for clothes at...as you'll see in the repeats. (Forever 21 and Target being 2 of them) I'm also not above Walmart, just so you know. ;)

I'm not even sure that anyone will REALLy care about this outfit adventure I'm embarking on, but I thought it may be fun to share in case anyone else wants to try it.
I also wanted to explain why I may be looking a little crazy in the next few months with my outfit choices. I have a feeling that once I get to about outfit 15 I'm going to be scrambling to put a new spin on things. :)

Forgot to add arrows to this last one for "Target". Almost the entire outfit came from Target. (cardigan, belt, yellow tank, and denim skirt (maternity section) ) The necklace is from World Market.

My hope is that I can be more creative in my wardrobe...and that it will stop me from shopping for a while....Let's hope so.

I've been trying to give the right side of my brain a workout this year (maybe to make up for the lack of workout my body's been getting? ) and have been trying to be more creative. This week's "Project 52" was a self portrait with something that you love. There are lots of things I love, but this is pretty self explanatory. I love cheesecake. I stuck with simplicity.

Self portraits are tricky. The catch is that you have to do it your"self". So, focus can be off, you have to constantly be checking your metering and settings without your subject (yourself) actually in front of the camera. It's tough. Anyhow, the focus wasn't exactly how I wanted, but I was about to run out of cheesecake so this is what you get.

By the way- I apologize for the dual usage of this image this week. If you're following our 365 blog, or follow me on facebook, you're probably tired of seeing me chowing down on this deliciously rich and creamy cheesecake....:)

Guess what we'll be doing soon....

Moving the height of the crib. Today is the second day of our crazy blizzard. I've not left the house for 2 days now. The roads are getting cleared though and I think everything is pretty well back to normal. In the meantime though, I've been able to get a lot of work done. I'm caught up! Hooray!! :)

On a personal note, look at our little booger. He's getting so big. Today he decided he wanted to pull up on his crib- on his own for the first time. He's also been wanting to crawl up the stairs but has been unsuccessful thus far. Lowering the crib height has now moved to the top of the agenda.

Army crawling at 65 mph, Jaden gets to wherever he needs to go. We're unsure about when he may actually start to walk. I'm sensing a pattern. He rolled for what seemed like forever, and now it seems he's been army crawling forever. To make up for it though, he's extending his vocabulary and has learned how to play catch. "Dada" is at the top of the list still. He often says "Ba" when he plays catch, and "duh" in there occasionally when Sasha passes by. I am almost certain he said boob the other day too.

Awesome.

Being cooped up in the house all day has made me cook, clean and move furniture. Just today I've baked a cheesecake, mopped the floor (which rarely if ever gets done) and moved Jaden's room around.

Bri + Dan: Engaged

There's times when I'm editing and I realize that I can't stop smiling. This is one of those times. Smiling is a little contagious and I guess seeing Bri and Dan's smiling faces made me smile all day long today. :)

Bri and Dan met at the lake a few years back. Fast forward to now and they're getting married!! :) This CPA and nanny are tying the knot in October. We ventured out into the chilly weather and met for their engagement session. Dan, your p.d.a. paid off! ;) I had such a great time during the shoot!! I hope you enjoy the photos.

The Reason: Swiped from 365 Project

I'm currently working on a new website. I've been trying to get all the images I want for my portfolio and everything else just perfect for it. I want clients/potential clients to get a feel of who I am when they visit the site, and I hope I'm successful.

I've been going through images and I ran across these and in the midst of all the "business" side of my job, these images made me stop for a moment and almost brought tears to my eyes. It's not that the photos themselves are amazingly composed, or the lighting is perfect, or anything technical; it's the relationship they've documented. I've decided these are my all-time favorites so far. :)

A little background on this daddy-daughter duo...
Eric and Libby are part of a family of 5. We were friends with them in North Carolina. Eric works hard to provide for his family and being a marine has made several sacrifices and spent much time away from his precious children and wife.

Libby may only be 4, but she's going on 25. I've NEVER met a 4 year old who is more of a little lady than Libby! I think her vocabulary is more extensive than my own! :)

When I came across these images it dawned on me.

This is why I do what I do.

It's not to make money, it's not because it's "fun". I am a photographer because when Libby is my age and getting married I want her to be able to put these images in her wedding slideshow. I want it to be a reminder to Eric of who's he's fighting for when he's deployed. I want Eric to remember how sweet his little girl is and one day, and when the sad day comes when Eric is gone I want Libby to be able to look back at these pictures and remember how much her daddy adored her.

If the relationships I capture accomplish this- It's enough.

If I never make another penny, it's been worth it. I hope that on my new site that clients get this, and see this through my work.

2011 Senior Rep Application

What is a senior rep?
A senior rep is a student spokesmodel for MK Loeffler Photography for their senior portraits. Reps will receive a free session + free stuff and have the potential of earning more freebies for each referral that books.

Can anyone be a senior rep?
I am limiting senior reps to 2 per high school in Pike, Lincoln, and Ralls county. The ideal senior rep is outgoing and loves MK Loeffler Photography's images. You must apply for the senior rep program. Not all applicants will become senior reps. Please only complete application if you are serious about being a senior rep for MK Loeffler Photography.

What if I'm not in either of those counties?
If you are within 40 miles of Bowling Green and are not in the counties listed but are interested in becoming a senior rep, please contact me!!! mkloefflerphoto@gmail.com

What freebies do I get?
A free session is included with the senior rep program. You also will receive 25 rep cards featuring you, 3 facebook files, 16 free wallets, and 10% off of your print order. Project 365

Blogging is not on my to do list today, but Oh well. I'm easily distracted.

This is my second attempt at a 365 project.

Until then, I haven't yet composed a list of goals for the 2011 year. I'm just not organized enough to have it completed yet.

Ah. I think my #1 goal should be: BE MORE ORGANIZED!! I try, I really do. If you are like me and have an artsy brain you understand that it's really hard to be!

I've tried over and over again but time after time I look around me and don't have any idea how the mess got there. Am I alone in this??

I feel like I think better when my desk isn't a mess but as I look down at the desk I'm using I see scraps of notes taken from lab companies, the water bill from June that still needs to be filed, a glass that definitely needs to be taken to the dish washer, a bottle of finger nail polish, and a few pony tail holders, amongst other things. I need a workspace that I can call my own. That may help. Perhaps I should move to the basement...or clear out the guest room?

I can't believe Christmas is 10 days away.....10 DAYS!!! Wow. How did 2011 sneak up on me so fast? This Christmas we really tried to focus on giving in the Loeffler household, not to ourselves but to others. The Johnsons {Roots}

It's crazy to me. It seems that the baby boom has happened again! :) I am loving the opportunity to photograph all these little munchkins lately though.

Ashley is the sister of one of my friends from high school (Brooke - the giggle monster) and of Jake, who I photographed about a month ago for his senior photos. Not only that, but she's also the cousin of both Brandon AND Kenley, who's photos I took this fall too. I'm almost certain that there's no one left to photograph in their family. ;) Just kidding.

I remember playing "Twister" (as in the tornado movie) with Brooke and Ashley in forts in their bedroom (using the "wiz kid" as the computer that analyzed the tornadoes) and making a haunted house in their basement. A good time was had by all. :) Sometimes it seems that it wasn't that long ago, but now Ashley is married and has a precious little baby boy.

We headed out to Bond County again to take the Johnson's pictures. This was the week that the heat wave was going through the Midwest. We had BEAUTIFUL weather for the shoot. Thanks guys for a fun shoot. :)

Miranda + Rich {I Do}

When I was a kid my sister would get stuck babysitting me during summers. There's an age gap between us, so when she was in high school I was still the bratty little sister. Since she was in high school, one rule was wherever she went she had to take me with her. Needless to say I spent a lot of time with her friends.

I remember a particular time that I was "drug" (ok I actually felt really cool to be hanging out with the big kids) to one of her gatherings.
We went to the fair because the senior class was in charge of the fairstand. (Selling food to raise money) There was an afternoon that the carnival opened during the day. I begged my sister to let me ride the rides and she wouldn't go with me. :( Her friend Miranda saved the day and took me to the carnival.

It had been years since I'd seen Miranda. I was thrilled when she contacted me about shooting wedding portraits for her Illinois reception, following their Chicago ceremony. Both Miranda and Rich are very talented. Miranda works as a copywriter and Rich is an Emmy award winning editor. Hello super successful couple! A combination of the Ah-Mazing! weather, their easy going personalities, and the lack of stress since there was no ceremony, made for a fun afternoon.

Can you say stunning? :) LOVING the veil. In fact if I could go back in time and remarry Stephen I would get a veil identical to this one!!

Rented from lensprotogo for the first time. This ring shot is done with a Nikon 105 mm/2.8 macro for all my photog buddies. Liked the company and will use them again!

The Boscias {Roots}

Meet the Boscias. I am loving this little family! Not only are mom and dad adorable (and very photogenic) their kids are precious! I've had the most awesome clients in the past month. The Boscias braved the chilly breeze and ventured out to shoot their family session. Thanks guys! I think it was worth it!

Little man is looking exceptionally cute in his overalls. :)

And you can't resist this princess. Look at those eyes! :)

I love the authenticity of this picture. While baby may not be the happiest, big sister is consoling him. Love the sweet little hand she put on his head (without being told to by the way). I think she will be a great big sister.

Jessie {Class of 2011}

Bowling Green isn't exatcly the most ideal place to photograph. Therefore, I'm always in search of nifty little places to use. Found one!!
Thanks to Jessie and her mom, I was directed to this awesome location. 2 things I learned on this session.

1. there's more than what meets the eye when it comes to locations. Beyond the cemetary and fences held so much more for us.

2. I am incredibly out of shape. Seriously. We hiked quite a good distance for some of these locations and I'm embarassed to say...I was out of breath. Lame.

Jessie and her family attend our church in Bowling Green. It's been fun getting to know them over the past few months. She is gorgeous, artistic, and SO very talented. I got to see some of her sketches- unbelievable. Then I heard her play her guitar. Beautiful! I feel weird saying this because they're my images, but Jessie, you truly shine in these photos. I hope you enjoy them and see how truly beautiful God has made you.

Did I mention gorgeous? I am loving the intensity of this picture!!!

-No offense to my senior boys, but it's nice to see a girl in the mix finally!! Thanks Jessie for a great session. I had a lot of fun! (and a great workout haha)

Ahoy Matey!

Ok, I know, I know. He's my baby...but STILL! You can't deny that he is pretty precious. I think he makes the cutest pirate I've ever seen. His costume was composed of a onsie and pants he already had, 1/2 a yard of red material, felt, elastic and a vest that I sewed out of an old pillow case. The only thing missing was a mustache that he let me draw on him later. Unfortunately he was done with his photo shoot by then. Although we didn't go trick or treating this year, our little stinker was pretty adorable.

Jacob: {Class of 2011}

Ok, remember me talking about feeling old because of the seniors and children I've been photographing lately? Jacob is no exception. Jake is my friend Brooke's little brother. I remember thinking Jake was the cutest thing. :) I watched his little league games and picked on him while I was in high school. After not seeing Jake for a few years he suddenly grew up. I still can't believe he is a senior. WOW! ( Mom upside down...literally- look at it again.) (thanks Matt B. :) )

I'm loving the spots we found in Greenville. I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to crack any smiles from him but fortunately I had some help from the "giggle monster". (a.k.a. Brookey) You're the best.

Thanks Jake for a great session. I had so much fun. I can't believe how you've grown up! I'll say it again...I can't believe you're a senior!!!

I I have to admit, I've had some awesome seniors this year to photograph. Not only that but they've all had awesome props too! These next two pictures were taken in front of a "duck blind". Jake loves to hunt so it was fitting for this hidden treasure we found at our location.

Jake, I know you weren't thrilled about the tie, but I think you look incredibly handsome. :)

She's probably going to kill me but the giggle monster was a huge help to me!!! haha. I've been out of town this week so I haven't had the chance to get Jake's pictures into a slideshow yet but look for it later this week!

My Jaden {is 7 months old}

My Jaden was 7 months old yesterday. 7 months? It's crazy to think of how fast it's flown by. He's getting so big and so many days I take advantage of the time I have with him.

Here's what he's been doing lately....

Movement

J likes to roll around- a lot! Still no crawling but wow is he a little rolly poley. He's sitting up pretty well on his own now. I still don't trust leaving him sitting up in the living room on his own. He's bound to get distracted by something or the dog and lean towards her and fall over. Even though he's not crawling he is liking when I pull him up by his arms. He pushes on his legs to a standing position, gives a great big grin and squints his eyes. (that's my boy) He is playing with toys all the time and shoving anything he can reach in his mouth. (speaking of, I think a tooth will be making it's debut in a few weeks)

Grub

We've moved to the 2nd stage of baby food because this little oinker loves to eat. 1 serving of fruits and veggies a day, and 1-2 servings of baby oatmeal. When he chows down on just a bottle it's between 6-8 oz. We've also been incorporating a sippy cup (still a work in progress), puffs (another work in progress) and mum mums. He LOVES the mum mums. Puffs are too small for him to figure out yet. He gets them in his hands and goes to put them in his mouth but misses because his thumb is there, and because he can't see them.

Sleep

Little man is still sleeping 10-12 hours a night (sweet!) and takes 1-3 naps during the day.

Sound

Jaden squeals sometimes when he's being tickled. He laughs when we play peek a boo with him. His toothless smile in combination with his belly laughs make my day. He's making the following sounds:

and ma (only when he's MAD)

and get this....He's mimicking "Hi da da" on a regular basis. Not mommy. Dada. He even stared at Stephen the other day for a long time and then said "da...da". I'm secretly waiting to write in the baby book his first word until I clearly hear mama. Just kidding. I frequently go around saying "ma ma ma ma ma ma. Say Ma ma ma ma." Jaden looks at me, makes a fart noise with his mouth and says "da da".

What a turd.

Amy + Andrew {Engaged}

I admit that engagement sessions may be my favorite thing to shoot. I love seeing 2 love birds in love! (how many times could I say love in that sentence? Seriously) Andrew and Amy are engaged and are tying the knot next year! We visited some various locations in Greenville to shoot their mini session. I'm a firm believer that ANY town has un suspecting places that are awesome for pictures. I'm not giving away the secret spots though. Nope! haha. Just kidding.
Amy and Andrew grew up together and started dating in high school. (awwww. :) ) I love some of the expressions Andrew has in these pictures. You can tell he really adores Amy. But then again, it must be easy when she has those gorgeous blue eyes! Congrats on the engagement you two.

Willman Family

Lately my clientele has been filled with people in my past. I'm loving getting to reconnect with people I haven't seen in years. This time it was the Willman family. Angie coached our cheerleading squad to victory in high school. She kept us on task and in line when we were getting out of hand. (...Christy and Andrea! haha) Back then her oldest wasn't even in school yet!! My how the time flies. Check out this precious little family. Perfectly color cordinated, you guys were a blast to work with.

Notice my newest prop...the "green chair". I'm loving it. Trying to convince my husband to let us use it in the house somewhere. haha. I picked it up at Lisa's in Greenville, Illinois on the square. Check it out if you're ever in the area.

Baby Payton {6 Months Young}

I swear, baby Payton gets sweeter and sweeter everytime I take her picture. It's been so fun seeing little Payton grow over the past few months. I always look forward to her sessions. She loves the camera and it makes it easy for me! She is all smiles. :) She's getting so big! Love her.

Jared and Paige....+ Braxton

Lately I've been doing lots of sessions of people I've known for a while. However, recently I had the awesome privelage of meeting Paige and Jared in Hannibal for their session. Paige and Jared grew up in the Bowling Green area and now have the cutest little mover: Braxton! It was fun for me to think of Jaden being this active in a couple of years. I guess I'd better invest in some good running shoes before then! :) We had awesome weather for our session and I'm so thankful for it! Loving this awesome fall weather. Loving the fact that this year I get to see a fall where the leaves are gorgeous, air is crisp, and sweaters are welcome. Check out this precious little family. Brandon: Class of 2011

Meet Brandon: Senior Class of 2011 for Mulberry Grove High School. You know how you have moments where you feel really old? Usually it's when a student says something you've never heard before, they're wearing the newest fad that you don't know about, or they're singing the lines to a pop song that you didn't hear on the adult top 40? (this happens all too often. Photographing Brandon made me feel a bit old, but this time it was because the last time I saw Brandon he was half my height, running around in cowboy boots, playing tag with all the kids from school at the Mulberry Grove fireman's picnic. Fast forward a few years and I doubt he still plays tag, but he's still got some boots! What a handsome young man he is becoming.

When I talked to Brandon about specifics about his session he only mentioned his saddle that he proudly possesses. I'm rodeo-ignorant but after talking a little bit with Brandon and his mom, I had a rodeo crash course I walked away a little more educated about rodeos. Brandon is the Illinois State Champion. Quite an achievement! He's traveled across the country competing.

Kenley + Joey: Engaged

I went to a small high school. When I say small, I mean SMALL (wishing there was an opposite button for the caps lock key to emphasize my point). In this small high school I met Kenley. The thing I remember about Kenley is how sweet she was. Fast forward a few years later and she's still just as sweet as ever. Not only that, she's getting married next year and I'm thrilled to be capturing her special day!

We We ventured down to Forest Park in STL to do she and Joey's engagement session. Talk about amazing weather- I couldn't have asked for better.

Loving the lines of the architecture in these next pictures. And Kenley, it's not the camera. You are gorgeous!

Letters to Jaden

My husband can be pretty goofy sometimes (that makes us a good fit) but he can also has a serious side. It's all about balance and timing I suppose. I think that Jaden and I both are blessed for the amazing husband and father God has placed in our family.

A few months back, Stephen began blogging, but blogging with purpose. He's been writing letters to Jaden about life and all things important so that someday Jaden can read them and hopefully take something away from them.
This week I "guest blogged" on the site and wrote my own letter to Jaden.
I hope to get the letters in book form, if nothing else, just for his sake so that he can have a hardcopy of the letters written to him from mom and dad.
